Miami Dade College (MDC) Medical Campus Center for Learning, Innovation & Simulation
Miller Legg provided a full suite of civil engineering services for the LEED Gold Miami-Dade College Medical Campus Center for Learning, Innovation and Simulation project. The Center is 132,470 SF, 5-story academic building and accompanying garage, with spaces to simulate a real-world hospital environment, mainly for the medical school’s nursing and physician assistant programs.
Miller Legg’s scope of services for the new building spanned preliminary site engineering/analysis through site civil and utility infrastructure design development and construction documentation, to construction observation and closeout. Soil remediation design requirements were determined. Public agency permitting was coordinated through Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department (WASD), Public Works Department (PWD), Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM), Fire and Health Departments.
In addition, the firm furnished full civil services associated with the demolition of a 1-story building to make way for the new construction.
Miller Legg also prepared LEED exhibits and calculations related to the engineering design effort for the project for a Gold level application.
The new building was delivered through construction management at risk (CM@R).
